JOSIE ASKIN CERTIFIED NYC CORE PILATES MAT TEACHER
Like many students, Josie's journey into pilates was at the recommendation of a physiotherapist after the diagnosis of a hip injury aggravated by muscular imbalances, weakness, and tightness.
Josie had the option of managing the injury with rehabilitation and ongoing strength training involving pilates, or to have surgery to repair the injury. Josie chose the training path to address any underlying issues that may have led to the injury in the first place. Josie returned to long-distance running without requiring surgery.
To this day pilates is key in Josie training programme. She credits pilates for enabling her to continue to run, and for reducing pain and injury. Josie now shares the benefits of pilates with her students.

What is pilates?
IMPROVES STRENGTH, FLEXIBILITY, POSTURE, BALANCE AND ENERGY.
A MIND-BODY CONNECTION.
Pilates concentrates on posture, balance and flexibility and focuses on the mind-body connection. While doing the various exercises your mind needs to be constantly aware of your breathing and the way your body moves.
The benefits of pilates include improved strength, flexibility, posture, balance and energy. It is also helps to reduce stress and provides an overall sense of wellbeing.
The founder of Pilates, Joseph Pilates believed that physical and mental health were closely related. He outlined six major principles in his method:
-
breath
-
centering
-
concentration
-
flow
-
control
-
precision.
These six principles are designed to achieve fast results through the best form possible. The principles are not limited only to pilates, they provide a strong foundation to build on for any physical discipline whether it be running, weight lifting, yoga, golf or life.
